Community Program Sponsored by Wal-Mart and the Livermore Police Officer’s Association

December 16, Livermore, California – On Saturday, December 12, twenty elementary and middle school students participated in the 7th annual “Shop with a Cop” program. The students are picked up at their home by an off-duty police officer. They ride to  Starbucks  which sponsors hot chocolate and pastries for all twenty students and eleven officers. From Starbucks, the caravan cruises to Wal-Mart Livermore where they are greeted by the Granada High School Marching Band and are each given $125 to shop for themselves  and  their families. Students from Granada High School’s Leadership program assisted the students and officers at Wal-Mart. Following the shopping excursion, the students and officers have  breakfast at Emil Villa’s and return to the Police Department to wrap their presents.

“Shop with a Cop is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together around the holidays,” says Pat Avilla, Principal of Christensen Middle School. “This program would not be possible without the generosity of our community, and the spirit of collaboration the exists here in Livermore.”

“Shop with a Cop” is a partnership between the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District and the Livermore Police Department. Funds to support the program are provided by Wal-Mart Livermore and the Livermore Police Officer’s Association. In-kind support provided by Emil Villa’s Restaurant and Starbucks.
