eBook_Los Altos eBook Photo - croppedMay 12, Livermore, California – The Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center (LVPAC) is teaming up with the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District and Adventures in Writing Camp (AIW Camp) to provide Livermore students the chance to fall in love with writing this summer.  Through a generous partnership with LVPAC, Livermore residents have the opportunity to participate in the two-week camp for $395. The camp normally costs $695.

Additionally, LVPAC is providing 25 scholarships for Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District elementary school students allowing them to attend the camp for a total of $40 each. Registration is open and LVPAC and AIW Camp are accepting registrations now.

“I’m pleased to see our community coming together to support arts education,” says Cindy Alba, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services. “The arts are very important to the Livermore Community and Adventures in Writing Camp is a terrific example of a program where students can express themselves creatively through a standards aligned curriculum that is fun and engaging for students.”

williamsThis two-week program allows campers entering grades 2-5 to write, edit, and publish their own eBook. Lessons are delivered as songs, and new writing skills are practiced through games, theater and songwriting. The program is designed to inspire reluctant writers and delight those that already have “the bug.”

Adventures in Writing Camp has deep connections to Livermore. The Camp’s Musical Director is Livermore native and LVJUSD alumnus, Jon Williams. Mr. Williams is also on the Board of Directors of the Livermore Valley Education Foundation. Additionally, Adventures in Writing Camp will recruit and train LVJUSD teachers to staff the two-week camp, further developing the District’s capacity to deliver arts-based education programs throughout the year.

The session runs August 1 – August 12 at The Bothwell Arts Center, 2466 8th St, Livermore, CA 94550 from 9am – 3pm with extended care available from 8am to 5pm. Learn more by watching the video at www.AIWcamp.com or calling 415-322-0511.  For more information regarding scholarships for LVJUSD students, please contact Sam Tobis: stobis@lvjusd.k12.ca.us, (925) 606-3214.

ABOUT ADVENTURES IN WRITING CAMP

Adventures in writing camp was created by Stanford educated authors Hans and Jen Hartvickson. Their team of authors, musicians, teachers and curriculum experts set out to create a writing camp that turns the notion of “writing camp” on its formerly-stuffy head. For elementary campers, lessons are delivered as songs, and new writing skills are practiced by writing rap songs. Rising first graders develop story skills, while campers entering grades 2-5 publish their own eBooks on iPads. Middle school campers create their own blogs filled with technology- driven content. Do we accomplish our goals? We think so. But don’t take our word for it. Visit  www.AIWcamp.com and watch the video to see what Adventures in Writing Camp can do for YOUR young writers!
